US or Canada, NHL, AHL, ECHL, CHL – it does not matter – ASL understands the trauma your body has gone through from playing hockey and the medical care you will need as you grow older. As an ASL team member, you will get the compensation and medical care that you deserve.
Major League Hockey
Missing teeth, fractured bones, broken noses, damaged ligaments – these are the stories of almost any NHL player who has ever laced up the skates. “I went to a fight the other night, and a hockey game broke out” is one of the most famous quotes by Rodney Dangerfield and it is as true today as it was several years ago.
Minor League Hockey
As the California Court of Appeals described what one minor league hockey player went through in his career:
The minor league hockey player sustained numerous blows to his head and body during the employer’s regular trips to California for multiple games. The minor league hockey player described the numerous injuries and traumas he sustained in the course of his employment by his NHL team, including sprains and strains to multiple body parts, broken bones, lost teeth and concussions.
The toll those activities took on the player’s body led the NHL minor league teams to provide a variety of treatment modalities, including injections of painkillers including Toradol to relieve the player’s groin pain.
The player testified to the many times he was unable to play because of the injuries he sustained. Moreover, the teams employed physicians and travelled with medical support personnel for the very reason that the playing hockey involved such physically punishing work the employees had ongoing need for regular medical treatment.
